I feel like the show's people didn't expect their chemistry or popularity and felt they had to follow history and the only way to do that was to do a complete character assisination on Guy after a season of building him up. To this day, I haven't seen the last two episodes of S2 and beyond.
Marian made Guy a better man and not because he knew it could possibly get him in her pants. He found out it had those qualities in him all along. It was just a matter of circumstance. I truly believe Guy could have just as easily been like Robin had the Sheriff not got a hold of him.
And Marian's passionate side came out around Guy. And she liked it more than she wanted to admit.
