Seriously, I went into the show without intentions of shipping and I finished being all about Jeff and Annie. The combination of Joel and Alison's performances and the writing just made it work for me.
The stuff in S2 was almost more signficant because it wasn't just about physical attraction. There was something more there. There was the Annie of it all! And Jeff saw her more as a woman as much as he tried to deny it.
I think Paradigms did a couple of things, one of which was, in my opinion, kill the Jeff/Britta ship dead. I don't dislike Britta, I just don't like who she and Jeff are when they are with each other. And clearly their hook ups weren't serious as they both persued other options quite blantantly. And I'm almost fine with it because they didn't do it to hurt anyone else. They kept it secret and ended it once the secret was out. Though Annie (and most of us) doesn't see it that way, Jeff hasn't completely connect love and sex. Sex is mostly physical for him, not emotional.
Things I think progressed quite nicely in Fistful. He turned all protective!Jeff early on by sending Abed to get her. And when he saw the wanted poster, he asked Annie about his forehead, basically saying, "Annie, tell me I'm pretty." And did that often anytime the Black Rider was brought up. Annie turned to Jeff when she needed a new gun and he gave it up without a second thought. In A Few More, Abed essentailly became Jeff and he even acknowledged that fact. I will be very surprised come next season if it doens't pan out that Annie's still flirty with Abed until he tells her she was only attracted to the character he put on. A character that Jeff naturally is. And Jeff has already proven to get jealous over any guy even sniffing around her.
Also, I remember a tweet to Dan Harmon saying, "Annie turns 21 this year. Can she have Jeff for her birthday?" and he replied, "I'll see what I can do." He knows what the people want and he only pokes fun becuase he loves. I don't think he's ever been cruel. I mean, come one, Milady's? He could have just said he went to a bar and posted the picture. He made it a point to say it was a J/A bar.
