Dancing with the Stars Week 1
WELCOME TO DANCING WITH THE STARS!
Okay, this week, in order to "get to know the participants" they are splitting the men and women this week. Tonight is the women. Which means I won't get to see the men live, as I have class tomorrow night. So, unless there's a HUGE outcry (or I'm asked nicely), I won't be doing a commentary on tomorrow's show. However, that won't stop me tonight! And every other Monday night!
Samantha Harris had her baby yesterday and filling in for her is DREW LACHEY!!!!
For the record, they did this first number on the tour. Only with the tour dancers (which included my Dutch Stud Muffin, Louis). I'm always happy to see Alec but he's saddled with yet another model, this one lesser known than Rachel Hunter. Let's hope for charisma. Julianne's big brother and her partner/boyfriend (different folks, it goes without saying, I hope) are joining us this year. Jonathan and Anna are back, which I love. OH! Edyta is now Mrs. Mazo!!!!! Kym and Julianne are still disgustingly adorable. Maks is still fine. Still ADORE Tony and Cheryl. Still can't stand Karina.
DUDE WAYNE NEWTON! I'll talk more about the celebrities as we go.
Dance #1: Jennie and Derek 1-800-868-3401
I like Jennie. Always have. She and her husband have been together for 11 years! It doesn't seem that long. They are dancing a cha cha to "Uptown Girl". Not too bad for a first time out. I think Derek being a newbie will make him ambitious and having sibling rivalry with last season's winner won't hurt either. Aw, Peter is so proud! I don't disagree with the judges at all here.
You know, if they didn't put in the extra filler before the dance and go to commercial after, they would have fit everyone in tonight. UGLY BETTY IS BACK THURSDAY!!
Dance #2: Josie and Alec 1-800-868-8302
I don't know her at all. Alec is the pure draw for this at this point for me. Alec is still just sex on two legs. Oh Josie, don't be beating him up. Not good. They fox trotting to a pop standard that I don't know the name of. This is doubly hard as Alec is Latin and this is ballroom. Challenges all around. It was nice. I want to love it more than I do. Good to see Len is in top form right away. Carrie Anne has to have a cold.
Tom is still the man and Drew is doing very well.
I want to see Enchanted so bad. Disney mocks itself. If you've ever been to The Comedy Warehouse in Pleasure Island, you know how well they can do that.
Dance #3: Sabrina and Mark 1-800-868-8303
Sabrina is sort of in the same boat as Monique two seasons ago being the Disney girl. Monique ended up being my favorite dancer so far. Mark is Julianne's partner, other than that, he's unknown. This hurts them all the way around. They are dancing a cha cha to "Don't 'Cha". They are very sparkly. I'm not anti-flair, but I would have liked this more had they stuck to a cha cha. She wasn't hurting on that part at all. And the judges agree somewhat. Those scores are too high.
Dance #4: Marie and Jonathan 1-800-868-8304
Okay, who else is Donny-spotting? I think Marie will either soar or bomb, no in between. And it'll be up to her which it is. She has a built-in nostalgia audience but that will only take her so far. Jonathan can pull it out when he needs to, not worried about him. They are doing the fox trot to "I Hear a Symphony". I think she'll be okay in the ballroom but struggle in the Latin. Hope she proves me wrong. Once again, good, not great. But considering her age and such, not bad at all.
How's everyone else on my f-list enjoying Heroes? I'll get it watched eventually. Because DAVID ANDERS!!!!!!!!!! And Peter best not be deadas he needs to continue to have inappropriate chemistry with his ‘niece’.
Dance #5: Mel and Maksim 1-800-868-3405
I'm stupidly excited about these two. I was a Spice Girl fan. I saw the movie in the theater. "Spice Up Your Life" is great song. They actually had quite a few good songs. I've seen friends of mine dress in drag and dance to "Wannabe". Good stuff. I want her to call out Eddie on air! And she looks hot now. I think it's the hair. And if you paid attention last season, I love Maks. He's pretty. Yep, that's all it takes. But then he can shake those hips too. I think they'll make an excellent pair. They are going to cha cha to "Pride". See, that's how you cha cha while keeping yourself in it. It could have been a tad sharper but I loved it.
Dance #6: Jane and Tony 1-800-868-3406
Tony always brings the best out of his partners. And Jane is, well, Jane and therefore awesome. Just once I'd like to see Tony go all the way. Is this the season that it will happen? Don't know. She squealed like I would have! And I like her more. They will be trotting the fox to "Let's Fall In Love". That was just lovely. I'm not even worried about her Latin because she has Tony for a partner and she was a cougar that broke Barney on "How I Met Your Mother" (which I'll get watched eventually as well). Easily my favorite dance of the night.
For the record, already loving Cameron, Helio and Wayne. Have like for Mark. Don’t really know the other two but at least have heard of Floyd. You know Mark will argue back with the judges! Cameron has the soap audience (that includes me). Indy Car used to be my favorite sport (the love sort of died when I saw my favorite driver killed in a race seven years ago), so I know who Helio and have for awhile. And, you know, Wayne Newton.
I alway miss this show when it's gone.
