Thinky Thoughts on a Topic in S4
Apr. 14th, 2008 08:37 amDonna Noble is causing trouble. A shock, I know. She is in danger of usurping Rose Tyler as my favorite companion. It's only two episodes in though, so I'm not making a firm decision on that yet.
When I told my mom this on Saturday night, she said, "You like Donna as the companion and you want Rose to marry him and have kids." My mother is very wise because that is exactly right.
I now think of it like this: Rose is his "wife", romantic partner, lover. The one he comes home to. Donna is the older secretary that keeps him in line at work. He spends long hours with both of them and couldn't get on without either one.
They both love him fiercely in very different ways. They also would be the first to kill him when he got too annoying.
To shamelessly steal my analogy from another show: The Doctor is Jeb Bartlett. Rose is Abby. Donna is Mrs. Langinham. This also makes Jack, Leo, which strangely sort of fits too.
I'm very happy to own this opinion and am not afraid of how others would view this. If you know me and have paid attention, I am a fierce shipper. More importantly, an OTPer. (I can't imagine either one of my pair falling in love with ANYONE else now that they have found each other. And no, I don't think that makes their lives any less. It is possible to live a fantastic life and not include a romantic aspect and still be perfectly fulfilled.) That doesn't mean that neither one has to be cut off from everyone.
