HIMYM Post O' The Day

I went to see Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay today. I was one of nine people there (it was the first showing on a weekday) and the only female there. Therefore, when NPH came on the screen, I squealed quietly to myself.
What does that have to do with the show? Not much except NPH in the H & K movies and Barney are alike in many ways but I'm not sure they'd get along. That being said, I have a weird crush on them both.
Anyways, to the show.
Zip, Zip, Zip in S1 was the episode where it was obvious that Barney and Robin have oodles of chemistry and that's when I was all about them getting together, thinking it a pipe dream.
I suffered through S2, the love story of Ted and Robin, knowing, as we all did, that it wouldn't last. Then came the upping of the flirting of my pair in S3. But I honestly didn't believe we'd see anything or there would be a future flashback showing they'd been hooking up all along.
While I wouldn't have minded if they had went that route, I love that they did it the way they did. And you always thought it was going to happen. And if you go back, it's obvious it was going to. In fact, scenes from the first season hinted at it. I've been re-watching and there are things that are just so clear or could be. Like her new welcome mat in Game Night. It says "Scherbastky" on it. Barney always calls her that. Ted rarely did.
And, let's consider, in Slap Bet, Ted tells Robin that 16 year-old him would have been all over 16 year-old her. Sweet, yes. But compare that to this week where Barney points out how lame she was at 16 and how awesome she is now. Now, I don't think he's saying Ted is lame. But he wants Robin to see what he sees. Barney doesn't talk up anyone unless they truly mean something to him. And I'm not entirely sure he knows how to handle what he feels for her.
I know he doesn't want to hurt Ted but at the same time, he's never felt like this for someone since he's become this Barney. He's likely to sabotage the whole thing just because it's not natural for him. And/or he’d be all about making her jealous and seething in his own if she dates someone else.
At the same time, Robin doesn't want to be tied down. And from Saget!Ted's narration, we find she isn't. But she's very much a part of his and his kids' lives. I don't think Barney would want her to change. That's not the Robin he's falling for. He'd encourage her to roam the world. If for no other reason than he'd get to have sex in foreign lands! They'd both keep their independence that way. And how will Robin get the money to live in these different places? Barney's clearly well-off and I think he'd enjoy spoiling her.
We'll see but for now, I'm keeping my hopes up (and if you don't, that's fine, just don't do it here, okay?).
