Ficlet Time

It's been awhile since I've ficleted and this idea has been bugging me since this weekend. So, here's
Rose arrived checking her watch. She was a bit late and hoped that didn't mean disaster. She joined the group of women waiting on the pavement.
The final bell sounded and, as always the pack burst out the doors. The lady next to her leaned over and said, "They're something else aren't they?" Rose nodded. "Which one is yours?" She jutted he chin to the one in the middle. The woman raised her eyebrow and Rose smiled weakly as their respective charges approached.
"Guess what, today Sally brought in her pet gecko and it got loose and we had to look for it and BYE GARETH and Jamie was reading from the ghost story book and the lights went out and everyone screamed and it was BYE ALEX it was really cool and this one maths question had everyone confused but it got sussed out and went it was time to play outside it started to rain but we didn't go back in right away BYE EMMY and we were all soggy during the science lesson but we didn't care and Hannah brought in a big bag of sweets that she shared with everyone and they were REALLY good and we finished the bag and we played a really fun game that actually was a sneaky way to teach grammar and then the bell rang and now I'm here!"
Rose blinked. She was fairly certain he hadn't taken a breath that whole time. She took a moment, smoothed his shirt and took his hand, which was sticky. "Why are we here again?" Giving him a warning look reminding him they were in public.
"To see if that person is really that thing and doing that possibly bad thing." He swung their hands and stuck out his lower lip.
She was having none of it. "And what are we supposed to be doing?"
"Being undercover and not drawing attention to ourselves."
"That's right. And..." She was cut off by some passers-by.
"Mummy that's him! Mr. Smith is the bestest teacher ever!" His kept his head down but couldn't stop his lips quirking up a bit at that.
"And whose idea was it to be a teacher in an elementary school?"
"Mine."
"Right. Well, at least you're enjoying your role, Doctor.”
“What about you?”
“I don't mind being a lady of leisure."
"Mrs. Smith is very busy being a perfect housewife to her loving husband!"
"And the TARDIS takes care of all that for me while I watch telly and make the occasional Teso's run. It's brilliant actually. You’re the one who said, ‘Be inconspicuous’ and you’re clearly doing a fantastic job of that. Let's get you home then."
He grinned and bounced around while still holding her hand. "Tomorrow's going to be even better! We're going to...."

I also have the theory that any girl will have him wrapped around her finger but he'll never let her date ever. He's especially wary of Uncle Jack. Meanwhile, Uncle Jack will flirt with any of their offspring and will be even more protectiven than the Doctor is.

Date: 2007-11-07 03:15 am (UTC)This reminds me of the segment on Animaniacs with Randy Beaman's friend (if you have any idea what I'm talking about).

Date: 2007-11-07 01:48 pm (UTC)You are so right! I didn't even think of that. The part that spawned this was Rose talking with the mums. I can just see him bounding out of the TARDIS, giving the whole story. Pausing. "Okay bye." Running back inside. (Can you believe I can't find a clip of that at YouTube, it's probably there but I was having a rubbish day yesterday so that is to be considered?)
Now I want to watch Animaniacs. He'd also be perfect for the Good Idea/Bad Idea moments. He's a close, personal friend of Chicken Boo. Helped create his Perception Filter.

Date: 2007-11-08 03:03 pm (UTC)I would like to have Animaniacs but I currently do not have the funds and I'm going for the big guns (Deadwood and Rome) for Christmas. I will acquire it some day.

Date: 2007-11-07 03:42 pm (UTC)And his main arguement for Jack not hooking up with his kids? Jack is too old for them. At which point Rose would fondly ruffle his hair and smack the back of his head.

...
Well, I guess that doesn't count, does it? Hmm. Well, I would have commented yesterday, but to be completely honest, this went right over my head. Combined with my lack of brain power and total confusion, I was having trouble figuring out what was going on here. It wasn't until I'd read Roxy's comments that I finally got it, and by that point, I was so completely embarassed, I decided to hide. :\ So there you go.
That said, now that I can, you know, READ... it's a cute fic. The Doctor would make a great teacher for the young'uns, especially hyped up on sweets.
...I also like your choice in kid names... Sally? Gareth? JAMIE? *cough* Hannah? :D Sorry, it just amuses me. *hangs head*

Date: 2007-11-09 12:43 am (UTC)Yes, he needs to be with people on his level.
I was trying to pick random British sounding names. I didn't realize the Jamie thing until you pointed it out! And yes, for some strange reason the Doctor is drawn to a pretty girl named Hannah who likes to give boys treats....
