'cause everyone else is doing it and I haven't done in meme in AGES

Comment with any ship (romantic or platonic or maybe even non-existent!) from a fandom that you know I have some knowledge about, and I will rant about aforementioned ship. This may be incoherent gushing or exclamations of disgust, depending on your ship of choice.

Things what I watch/know about: Doctor Who, Community, Robin Hood, True Blood, Glee, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Game of Thrones (though I still don't know all the characters fully yet), The Borgias, How I Met Your Mother, Mike & Molly, Cougar Town, 30 Rock, SNL, Green Wing, Ashes to Ashes, Being Human, Lost in Translation, Phantom of the Opera, Moulin Rouge, Lost, Buffy, Harry Potter, and other stuff that I can't think of at the moment, but really isn't that enough?

Right so, in the completely unpopular opinion category, I do not like this ship at all. I quit watching the show when Raph left. I loved Mary and Marshall as friends but nothing more. Anytime they tried to tack any sort of romance onto them, I felt it was forced. As I said, I haven't watched in a long time, so I don't know what's going on now. Maybe it got better.

I have not read the books, but I've read the summaries of the books. Mostly to help me figure out what's going on.

Right now, favorite two characters: Dany and Tyrion, with the former taking the lead.

Dany and Tyrion are pretty cool characters. I have a falling out with Dany somewhere along the line in the books and I'll be curious how that goes in the series. I've pretty much always been an Arya fangirl myself.

See, I don't like Arya at all. I get that that's unpopular. I just don't have time to read the book, so I'm sure that makes a difference (as it has in my True Blood watching).

I going to to give each one of these their own comment.

Doctor/Rose, I simply love them. I believe they are meant to be no matter what version of the Doctor, though I prefer her with Ten (and any versions thereof).

It's been said that she was there at a vunerable time in is his life, and that's where the attachment came form. While true, she was there, if you take any of the other companions, they would not have been able to handle him the way she did. And it didn't start out as that kind of love, but then...Well, she crossed universes to get her man back and had some time to help save folks on the side.

They complimented eached other in the best way possible. Are completely adorkable with each other. He's faced the most terrifying things ever and the only being that completelly scares him is his mother-in-law! (As well it should be.)

In the totally over-the-top-gushing category, he loved her so much he had to make a second version of himself to contain it all.

While they aren't my longest running ship, they are the longest running in which my love has not lessened in anyway.

I don't get how the "they met a a vulnerable time in his life" argument is supposed to negate what he felt for her. She's a part of who he is, becomes, and will be.

As many problems as I have with Ten II, it's really the writing of JE in general, not the idea of it. They do get to be together but I could have done without it being so...consequential.

Anyway, love them and always will.

Guy/Marian...

I feel like the show's people didn't expect their chemistry or popularity and felt they had to follow history and the only way to do that was to do a complete character assisination on Guy after a season of building him up. To this day, I haven't seen the last two episodes of S2 and beyond.

Marian made Guy a better man and not because he knew it could possibly get him in her pants. He found out it had those qualities in him all along. It was just a matter of circumstance. I truly believe Guy could have just as easily been like Robin had the Sheriff not got a hold of him.

And Marian's passionate side came out around Guy. And she liked it more than she wanted to admit.

I'm pretty certain TPTB we're expecting what they happened upon with these two yeah. And finding themselves with a conundrum they chose the path of...bizarreness. Yeah, and character assassination that then in s3 had to be reset (to be fair I like s3 because in the end it doesn't turn back the Guy arc the way s2 did).

In the beginning it was mostly about getting in her pants but by the end, while he hoped for that, that wasn't the main force of it. He wanted to be that man that she brought out in him.

Did you ever read my massive epic history of Guy fic? So far it's pretty much about how much Vasey screwed him up, because he totally did.

Oh Guv and Bolly...

I totally understand why they went the way they did and even accept it. However, I'm saddened that they only ever shared a kiss.

I kept hoping that at the end, Alex would be coming back into the squad room to "assist" Gene and would later tell him she was his reward for all that he'd done.

This is really the only ship that ended sadly that I wasn't heartbroken over. But that's what we have fic for.

Jeff/Annie: The New Obession

I think because I watched all the episodes within a month, that I have a different view point on them than a lot of other. I've seen several folks take your view point of S1's relationship being so much better than S2 and I don't see it that way.

As I streamlined the series, to me, by the time I caught up, Jeff/Annie were the only viable ship that could happen. Maybe that's down to Joel and Alison's choices as actors, but I think it's there in the writing too. That they are going to happen.

Add to that things said by the showrunner and the actors themselves, I really don't see it any other way.

As my main ships before these were a Time Lord and a 19/20-year old shopgirl, a 1,000+ year old vampire and a 25 year old waitress that can read minds, Jeff and Annie's decade and half difference does not phase me in the least. It's just a crutch for Jeff so that he doesn't have to face how he feels. Slater I think really screwed him up and he doesn't want to that to Annie. Which is honorable but he's hurting himself there. She's proven to be his conscience more than once.

And Annie, I think, has taken off her hero-worship goggles of Jeff and still like what she sees. Let's face it, Annie has lived quite a bit in her 20 years. And she still hasn't lost her idealism.

They make each other the best they can be. They've proven they are a natural team. More so than any other duo in the group with the possible exception of Troy and Abed, and I don't see anything romantic about those two.

For me, Jeff and Annie are it. (And I need an icon of them...and Magnitude...and Pavel...)

I think you do have a different perspective than a lot of us. And I definitely think the ship is still there in s2, just...now TPTB clearly know it's there but still aren't sure what to do with it.

Part of that works with the characters, Jeff's hesitance to do anything about the feelings there between them, his commitment phobia, and all that. So some of it feels character tentative and some of it feels writer tentative.

I honestly never even considered the age difference until I got into fandom (if I'd waited til this year the show would have brought it up), I just don't notice these things. And even when I do, I don't care.

If I ever am willing to spend the money and get a paid account with more icons I totally want some Community ones.

now TPTB clearly know it's there but still aren't sure what to do with it.

I think that could be a good thing. This means they wouldn't want to mess it up. That would alienate a good portion of their viewing audience and with a show with the ratings it currently has, that would nto be a good thing. Dan Harmon has said he was about the group dynamic over the potential pairing. And I think this was another case of chemistry being unexpected. Listening to the commentary from the S1 DVDs, he just couldn't ignore it and it hasn't gone away.

I have a paid account and room the icons. It's just a matter of finding them. I don't know what I want for the J/A one but I know my Magnitude one must be a animated "Pop, Pop" gif because, he's a one man party. And I just love Pavel though I couldn't tell you why. I just do. I get really excited when he shows up.

I love that you think Jeff and Annie are the only viable ship that can happen.

I agree with the whole season two. Even though we didn't get any kissing we got true emotions from them along with a whole lot more looks.I feel like these two have come a long way from the premiere to what they are now. I do believe that they understand each other better than anyone else in the group, and even though Troy and Abed are the best pairing Jeff and Annie are a close second.

The best times are when they are alone together because that is when they reveal who they really are IMO. They let down their shields.

Right now I believe they are probably not on the best of terms after Paradigms but the are mending it slowly and I can't wait until they make-up in Season 3. I just want Jeff's eyes to be opened more and quit dennying that he does have feelings for her.

From: [identity profile] misssara11.livejournal.com
Seriously, I went into the show without intentions of shipping and I finished being all about Jeff and Annie. The combination of Joel and Alison's performances and the writing just made it work for me.

The stuff in S2 was almost more signficant because it wasn't just about physical attraction. There was something more there. There was the Annie of it all! And Jeff saw her more as a woman as much as he tried to deny it.

I think Paradigms did a couple of things, one of which was, in my opinion, kill the Jeff/Britta ship dead. I don't dislike Britta, I just don't like who she and Jeff are when they are with each other. And clearly their hook ups weren't serious as they both persued other options quite blantantly. And I'm almost fine with it because they didn't do it to hurt anyone else. They kept it secret and ended it once the secret was out. Though Annie (and most of us) doesn't see it that way, Jeff hasn't completely connect love and sex. Sex is mostly physical for him, not emotional.

Things I think progressed quite nicely in Fistful. He turned all protective!Jeff early on by sending Abed to get her. And when he saw the wanted poster, he asked Annie about his forehead, basically saying, "Annie, tell me I'm pretty." And did that often anytime the Black Rider was brought up. Annie turned to Jeff when she needed a new gun and he gave it up without a second thought. In A Few More, Abed essentailly became Jeff and he even acknowledged that fact. I will be very surprised come next season if it doens't pan out that Annie's still flirty with Abed until he tells her she was only attracted to the character he put on. A character that Jeff naturally is. And Jeff has already proven to get jealous over any guy even sniffing around her.

Also, I remember a tweet to Dan Harmon saying, "Annie turns 21 this year. Can she have Jeff for her birthday?" and he replied, "I'll see what I can do." He knows what the people want and he only pokes fun becuase he loves. I don't think he's ever been cruel. I mean, come one, Milady's? He could have just said he went to a bar and posted the picture. He made it a point to say it was a J/A bar.

That wasn't half a ramble was it?

I'd love to see an epic battle in the way only this show could do between Wesley and Dennis while Liz just get embarrassed for them both.

The thing about them was everything Wesley said to Liz made sense. Depressing sense but sense nonetheless. They could be wonderfly mediocre with each other!

Since I know from a previous comment that you ship Eric/Sookie (Awesome btw), I don't need to ask about that.

So let's see: Buffy/Spike? and Remus/Tonks?

Date: 2011-05-26 02:06 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misssara11.livejournal.com
I so started to respond to this last night and I hit something and lost the whole comment. I was to tired to care at that point. Anyway, Buffy/Spike:

I shipped them before S4. That's before Something Blue and everything that followed. I was a Spike fan from the beginning. I was a Spike lover when he walked down the street in Halloween and said it was neat. And I've always loved Buffy. So them together was just...neat!

Spike, unlike Angel, loved Buffy not in spite of what she was but because of it. To begin with at least. If that were to all go away, he still would have loved her.

Even after reading the S8 comics, Angel was manipulated and therefore manpulated Buffy into something they weren't and was evil. Meanwhile, Spike was just Spike and everything they had was still there.

Spike changed into something he thought Buffy would want and not because she asked. Though she did appreciate it. Giving the choice to spend the night with anyone (including Angel) she wanted on the possible last night of her life, she chose Spike. When she said she loved him in the finale, I don't think she was telling him what he wanted to hear. I think she just realized it herself. And he I think he knew she meant it. He just wouldn't let her sacrifice herself for him.

In conclusion: Spike/Buffy=Sexy, Happy, Good Times

Date: 2011-06-08 12:23 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] westwingwolf.livejournal.com
So I like totally forgot I asked and then never checked your response...sorry. Bad ljfriend!

I loved Spike too from the beginning. Like from the moment he gave his "Woodstock" speech I thought he was cool. And then when he turned to look at Drusilla and easily slid from his vampire face, I was "Awww he's so sweet and so cute and sexy!" I'm not much a Spike/Dru fan beyond thinking they were fun to watch in S2, but the fact that he immediately dropped his mask for Dru (who, frankly, would have preferred his monster side) and showed his human looks told me that he was different from other vamps and could be both loving and tough and therefore more interesting. As oppose to some lame vamps who are only fun when they've lost their soul.

I think the first time I came into liking the idea of Spike & Buffy was the moment he beat up that cop and then said "Hello Cutie" in the S2 finale. It was like something clicked, but soon Spike was gone, and I had to wait until S4 to really get something from it.

Definitely agree on the idea that she did love him. No way could she have gone through the moments in Touched through Chosen without admitting to herself that she loved him. That speech alone in Touched should have done the trick. Plus, he was the only one to stick up for her. She loved him, and by his reaction I say he did believe, but yes, he had to get her to go.

Remus/Tonks. I read the books after seeing the first four movies and at the time, Remus made no impression on me. Then reading the third book, I was completely in love with the rumpled werewolf. And Tonks was awesome right away. When it was revealed she was in love with Remus, my response was, "Of course. Who wouldn't be?"

And I had to respect why he didn't persue her. He thought she deserved better. Which is always the formula for the truly great loves. She knew there wasn't any better. Even when he went barmy in Deathly Hallows, I hated him for it but understood. Also, being two of three favorite characters in the books, I was fine with their fate as it was the last book. Last in the series, you can kill everyone off, I'm cool. If your curious, Serius was my other fave and yes, I have issues he died when he did. (The only thing I truly disliked about the last book had nothing to do with pairings, btw.)

I would have loved for them to live and raise Teddy but at least they went together.

Date: 2011-06-08 12:33 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] westwingwolf.livejournal.com
I don't know if is the fact that I favor werewolf characters or if Remus was giving off some kind of sexy professor vibe, but I loved him from the moment he appeared in the third book. I can't remember if I was told by a friend that he was a werewolf before I started reading, but seeing as I know a lot about wolves, I'm sure I'd pick it up from his name anyway.

I have more to say about Remus/Tonks, but I'll save it because they are one of my shipping challenge responses, and I hate when I get repetitive which I often do when talking about my ships.

I can't deal with death well even if in the final book of a series. Seventh book broke me.

P.S. I like your icon. The Doctor is such a Ravenclaw...that or he's Barty Crouch, Jr.

BROTP!!!

I have been a fan of them like many others, after Zip, Zip, Zip and have been about them ever since. I made high pitched noise at the end of Sandcastles in the Sand. I was bitter over what they did to them in their relationship.

It seems the writers do not understand that ever couple does not have to be Marshall and Lily to work. Barney and Robin will never be Marshall and Lily, nor should they be. I my head, all those places Robin ended up working/visiting? Yeah, Barney financed it simply so that they could have sex there. Because he could afford it and it would make them both happy. They are not a case of opposites attract and that's a good thing.

BroTP FTW!

Marian/Robin..ick.

I never liked Robin. And he only cared for Marian when it was right for him. He never respected her choices or her independence. He made it clear duty came first. There's nothing wrong with that but Marian deserved someone who put her first *cough*Guy*cough*. Even in some other versions of Robin Hood, Robin just like Marian when he could make the time.

So yeah, not a fan and never will be.

(Side note, I tried watching Merlin. Could not get into it at all. Not big on Authorian ledged it ends up.)

Aw, thanks! Real life has hit hard and will continue to for the foresable future, makeing writing for fun no existant. But in my mind, they are still very happy. In fact, they don't bothered at all that I've left them to their own devices. Monty's a bit prissy but that's only because he thinks he's the star. I don't have the heart to tell him otherwise.

Anyways, obviously, I LOVE THEM. I created the universe they exist together in, so that would be expected. They came about because I kept seeing Peter be put with women I just didn't think were right for him. And I wanted David and Billie to work together again. There was only really one of her exisiting characters that could match up with Peter, and that was Belle. And Belle is much more Hannah (or at least she was) than she'd ever admit. So of course Peter would fall for her and she's a sane woman so she would fall for him.

I'm just very pleased others liked them together too!

Well, I think Allan had a crush on Maz but if he actually got her, I'm not sure he'd know what to do with her. She really didn't see him that way. That being said, when she had happy, naked, fun times with Guy, she wouldn't have turned down the opportunity for Allan to join them. (It's my delusion, let me have it.)
